Fear Free Grooming
Certified Fear Free Groomer

What is Fear Free Grooming?

Fear Free Grooming is a compassionate approach that prioritizes recognizing and addressing even the slightest signs of stress in your dog during the grooming process. By focusing on creating a positive experience, this method aims to guide dogs through grooming sessions in a way that minimizes discomfort and anxiety. Rather than relying on restraint or forced handling, Fear Free Grooming emphasizes gentle control, reward-based training, and voluntary cooperation.

The goal is to foster a sense of trust and patience, gradually helping your dog feel more at ease with each grooming session.

At my grooming studio, we believe grooming should never be a source of stress. From our very first interaction, conditioning begins to ensure a calm and enjoyable experience for your pet. The studio, located within my home, provides a quiet, comfortable setting designed to make your dog feel safe and secure throughout the grooming process.

I exclusively use high-quality, organically derived grooming shampoos that are proudly produced in the United States.

These carefully selected products are free from harsh chemicals, ensuring they won’t irritate or dry out your dog’s skin and coat. Your pet will receive the gentlest care, with nourishing ingredients that promote health and comfort.

Easy Appointment Process & Grooming Report

Upon booking your appointment, you will receive a text confirmation and a reminder as your scheduled date approaches.

After your dog’s grooming session, you’ll receive a detailed grooming report card, which includes a summary of your dog’s behavior and any additional notes from the groomer.

Behavioral Grooming and Consultation

At A Canine Understanding we are dedicated to ensuring every dog we groom experience as little stress as possible. Therefore, we choose not to just "get through" grooms by forcing dogs through the process. Dogs with significant behavioral challenges or aversions to grooming require patience, skill, knowledge, and counter conditioning to overcome past grooming trauma.

We utilize a fear free approach to grooming in which grooming compliance is reached through positive reinforcement training.

We start with an in-person behavior consult in which we meet you, and your dog. We discuss your dog's past experience, your concerns, and goals. I will then evaluate your dog and create a catered grooming training plan for your dog. A schedule will then be created to begin working towards creating a positive grooming experience for your dog.

30 Minute Consultation: $50

Grooming Training Time: $75 - $100 an hour

Nail Trim Only
$15

Dogs nails are trimmed through the use of a Dremel; which files the nails down smoothly without the risk of clipping the quick.

Behavioral Nail Trim Only
$25 - $40

This option is for dogs that have a difficult time having their nails done or can become aggressive.
